Momma Hen and I got our 11 year old, Austin, a rocket for his birthday almost two weeks ago, and I'm just finally sitting down to put it together.
He's been very patient while he waits for his dad to build the thing, but he asks about it at least a few times every day. And I hate that look in his eye as I can tell he wants to ask, but is afraid he already knows my answer will be "I can't do it right now." Or at least I'm choosing not to.
I'm sure for some of you, putting together a rocket is probably a very easy thing to accomplish.
For me? Not so much. I had my fair share of rockets when I was a kid, and I'm pretty sure I always bought ones that were pre-assembled.
Having a 2 year old son that really likes to get his hands on things, I have to wait until he's in bed before I can drag all the parts onto the floor and start trying to put the thing together.
Well, tonight was finally the night. I started before Austin went to bed, but barely. I got the rocket all glued together after he and everyone else went to bed tonight, and I think when he wakes up in the morning, he'll be surprised that it's all put together - finally.
Barring extreme Kansas wind, we'll shoot it off tomorrow afternoon, probably at least a few times.
It'll be fun, and it will probably make me regret that I don't do more stuff with him. It won't be long until he doesn't want me to build rockets for him anymore.
